Snack Smart: LowFat double chocolate-chip muffins

Hello everybody

Here's a note on my thoughts lately:
Human beings come in all shapes and sizes. All of them are equally beautiful. All of us are equally gorgeous. The fact that only certain body types are featured on billboards and magazines is because the magazine editors made the choice to promote them.
We are not all born to leek the same, since we did not come from a production line, we have our own special features. Special. Not shameful.
Let's therefore love ourselves and treat our bodies well.

One important thing is: eating for our health.
Here's another healthy and tasty recipe:
Eat healthily, this will make feel better on the inside and outside!

Another note:
Look at yourself in the mirror without clothes. Don't look at yourself like you are your own worst enemy or a nightmare. There is nothing to be afraid or ashamed of. Pretend that you are standing next to yourself as your best friend. Find the aspects of your body that you like. There 's always something that you LOVE about yourself, concentrate on that. Keep THAT in mind for a while, let it become a part of you-- and then find another thing. And another thing, up until there's no longer anything you dislike about yourself. It will not come to you in a single day. That is a process that takes time. But, bare with it - take that ONE thing you like. Start from there.

***
You deserve to feel good.

Love Story: Penny takes her pick

Hello everybody

It's warm outside. Finally.
Yesterday was a hot summer's day, the sunshine was strong and the sky way clear. As is just happens, today will be the same - a perfect days for.. paining the walls. :)

..
I am a person who believes marriage looks like some perfect fairy-tale ending, and is a life partnership filled with someone who supports your every dream, goal and aspiration. However, there are people who see the entire issue quite differently. They see marriage as a successful business partnership. A merger.

Let's take a look at what happens when
those two views collide:

Tell me that there is NOTHING wrong with being a hopeless romantic
and that there is Someone Out There for all of us.

We are allowed to be as romantic as we want to. On the other hand, I don't frown upon those who chose their life partner as they've chosen a business partner. As a matter of fact, I have found some advises on how to "manage the deal".
1. Look for a failure.
To build a successful marriage, partner with someone who has failed. I know your mother probably told you to find the most successful person possible to marry. She may have even used that dreaded line, “You can love a rich man just as easy as a poor man.” Your mother was wrong. Success is easy. When things are going well, having a partner to share things with is icing on the proverbial wedding cake. It’s when life turns hard that we need the most support. How a person handles failure, and rebounds from that failure, tells you more about their character and what your life together will look like than success ever will.
2. Beware of those who “lawyer up.”
How did the person of your dreams settle their last business dispute? Did they lawyer up and fight to the end no matter the economic and personal cost? If they did, run as fast as you can from the wedding altar! How a person solved and dissolved partnership issues in the past is exactly how they’ll solve and dissolve life-love issues with you.
3. Go for the service provider, not the sales person.
Romance is the ultimate sales pitch. You have a need (you want to be in love and have a partner) and you’re in the market to make a major acquisition. Unfortunately, you’ll probably go for the person with the best, most compelling sales pitch. And you’ll probably make a mistake.
Sales people are focused on winning customers. Customer service providers, on the other hand, are focused on satisfying your needs and helping you have the best experience. Who would you like to spend your life with? Someone who was fast on the uptake, or someone who cares and works at helping you meet your needs and creating the best possible outcome?
..
There's one thing I fully agree on :
Businesses that are built to last have shared priorities and values. Marriages that stand the test of time are built on the same foundation.
Have a wonderful Sunday!

Burda Wednesday: April 1959, part II

Hello everybody

Back in time, today would be Youth Day, in our former country, once much larger, once known by many and once called Yugoslavia.

Surely, we can at least acknowledge it:
HAPPY Youth Day!

Youth Day or The Relay of Youth (Bosnian, Croatian, Serbian and Slovenian Štafeta mladosti, Serbian Cyrillic Штафета младости) was celebrated throughout the former Yugoslavia on May 25.
This was also a celebration of Josip Broz Tito’s birthday although, in fact, he was born on May 7, 1892. His birthday was celebrated on May 25, because his troops were attacked by Nazis on May 25, day of his birth found on his forged personal documents. On that day, he managed to evade the Germans after the Raid on Drvar (Operation Rösselsprung), an airborne assault outside his Drvar headquarters in Bosnia.
In the weeks preceding the date youth ran a relay around the country and on his birthday Tito was ceremonially presented with the baton. The baton, which had passed through all major cities, contained a symbolic birthday message, ostensibly from the youth of the whole country.

After all this Ex-yu history,
let's take a look at some fashion history..
..back to Burda we go:

We start off with "practical dresses"
I'll write about it at the end.

Everyday dresses - "easy to maintain"
(and that is important!)

Tow pages of...

... "great ideas for full-figured"

"In Biarritz each woman is admired"

Spring-time suits.
Airy, light and versatile.

An interesting fabric texture.

Nothing beats the "white blouse"
it's a forever-fashion item!

Oh, take a look at those ruffles.
(ironing that is not an "easy maintenance)  :)
...but I still love it!

"Quickly sewn"  outfit.
for those of us pressed with time.

Simple shape, easy pattern
done in just a few hours.

Ehmmm, I'm still not used to seeing
such "points" in brassiere. :)

Two words
"perfect pleats"

...

Back to the beginning of this Burda magazine, where we've been introduced to a couple of dresses with a strange name and purpose. What is a practical-dress?
To most of the women out there, a "practical dress" is a term that sound not-believable.

Plain and boring?!
No, it's: practical and versatile!
(mind me, this is REALLY what I look like at work)

"Practical", sadly, often implies dull and one can well do without "dull" at this time. I like a good dress, a simple cut, plain and single colored. It goes beyond saying that it's a staple. A simple dress generally stays where you put it (and, when you need to spend the whole day in it - this matters much more than it's design or it's pattern). It also has the essential pockets – because how can you be practical without a pocket?
I suppose what I'm saying, in my roundabout way, is that simplicity & practicality are just fine and that we can wear dresses and skirts ALL the time.
Why?!
Because they are feminine and easily portray the fact that I am a woman.
This is honestly my strongest argument as to why I wear skirts and dresses. In today’s culture people seem to be extremely confused as to which gender they are ..or at least many act and look confused (please note: I have nothing against LGBT community, and I let them be). I am a female and I’m blessed to be one. Nothing wrong with being feminine. That is all. :)
...
Do you prefer your dresses posh, glamorous or practical?

Snack Smart: Whole grain lemon poppy seed muffins

Hello everybody.

When it comes to breakfast, the options are endless. Over here, you can go to a small-scale bakery and get some tasty "snail-wrapped-roll" cheese filled pastry. but, your options are quite large: Pancakes or waffles? Bacon and eggs? Maybe you would like to opt for a tasty muffin?

All the ingredients listed in here, I'm sure, can be found anywhere in the world.
Poppy seeds are harmless, but: yes, they do come from the same plant that produces opium. Fear not, when you buy your tiny black seeds in a grocery store, you will not get arrested. :)
If you are trying to avoid some additional fat, use low fat (or ever fat-free) cream - you can also substitute butter and egg for a vegetable-based substitute.

How to substitute an egg?
1. Flax Seed - The basic ratio is 1 tablespoon of ground flax seeds and 3 tablespoons of water to replace 1 egg.
2. Tofu - Use 1/4 cup of puréed tofu for 1 egg
3. Baking Soda and Vinegar (for fluffier dough) - Use 1 teaspoon of baking soda mixed with 1 tablespoon of white vinegar for 1 egg.
4. Banana - Different sources recommend anywhere from 1/2 to 1 mashed banana as a replacement for 1 egg.
...
I've also heard that you can use chia seeds, applesauce, or even mashed avocado in baked goods — have you ever tried?
How do you substitute eggs?!
Share your own tips and experiences in the comments.

Love Story: Hungry Heart

Hello everybody

Another Sunday in this lovely town of mine.
There's a small Town Fair today, in one of our local villages, they are celebrating their town's Patron Saint Day. Most probably, I'll head out there, later today - to see the small gathering (and maybe get some Fair Candy)  :)

Now, now..
brace yourselves, there's a lot going on in this story:
love lost, girl fooled, money gone, betrayal..

..and a happy ending
(well deserved, I may say)

This Wilma-gal we just had the chance to read about is a bit naive. Or is it just that the times have changed?! Nowadays, we tend to cling to our money quite strongly. and I don't think many of us ladies would be so willing to part from our inheritance (let's just imagine we have some) in order to hand it down to a man we barely know, so that he can use it for a bet.
Time has changed.
We trust people less.
We prefer "taking care of ourselves" first.
We seek happiness, but we're not paying ANY price for having it.
...right?
........
Have a great (and sunny) Sunday!

No, not Hedy - but Barbara La Marr.

Hello

She never had more than two hours of sleep a day, because she felt that life was too short to waste any of it by sleeping. Her name was Barbara La Marr. She was the girl who was too beautiful.

(can a woman be too beautiful?!)

Here is a story about this gal, a wonderful gal, an orphan-turned-millionaire, the gal who married five times.. here's the story of a gal who said the words "I like my men like I like my roses . . . by the dozen.".. and lived by it.

She was one of the first Californians to become rich in the motion picture industry; she was also probably the first to become an actress after being a scenario writer first. MGM chief Louis B. Mayer chose Hedy Lamarr's name in honor of Barbara La Marr.
If you would like to read a bit more about her amazing (yet sad) life story, hop over to our dear Lindsay Lane's place and take a closer look.
...

I hope this silent siren's story was fun.
Have a HAPPY FRIDAY!

Who's afraid of lightning? Who's hiding on the sound of thunder?

Hello

The fear of lightning is called astraphobia.
But: what is that you are afraid of? What IS the lightning?
Lightning is a giant spark of electricity in the atmosphere between clouds, the air, or the ground. In the early stages of development, air acts as an insulator between the positive and negative charges in the cloud and between the cloud and the ground.
Lightning can occur between opposite charges within the thunderstorm cloud (intra-cloud lightning) or between opposite charges in the cloud and on the ground (cloud-to-ground lightning).
Lightning is one of the oldest observed natural phenomena on earth. It can be seen in volcanic eruptions, extremely intense forest fires, surface nuclear detonations, heavy snowstorms, in large hurricanes, and obviously, thunderstorms.

I have found an interesting article about
this phenomena,
published in 1950's National Geographic magazine:

Let's be honest: it's not the light we're afraid of, right?
Lightning causes thunder!
Thunder can be heard up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) away from the lightning discharge. At these distances, thunder sounds like a low rumble because the higher frequency pitches are more easily absorbed by the surrounding environment, and the sound waves set off by the lightning discharge have different arrival times.
As my grandpa used to teach me, about why NOT fearing "the thunder" - by the time your ears hear the sound of thunder, and by the time the ground shakes.. lightning has long gone. :)

Are you a Science-Buff?
