Lace up the stockings, cut your shirt short, put pockets in your hat - styles advices from 1922

Hey there!

Happy Friday!
Not much is going on, besides me being nominated for a The Very Inspiring Blogger Award by my dear friend Jessica from Chronically vintage blog. I hereby promise to take my part, as soon as I find the time for it, my friends.

Today, I am getting outside my regular area of interest, and I'm hopping down to 1920's, and there awaits a lovely article on the latest fashion. Shall we take a look?

In order to explain you a bit, how I'm doing lately, allow me to give you a quote from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy:
The Encyclopedia Galactica, in its chapter on Love states that it is far too complicated to define. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy has this to say on the subject of love: Avoid, if at all possible. Unfortunately, Arthur Dent has never read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
I have read The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, but I still find it complicated. :D

BURDA Wednesday

Hello there.

It's Wednesday?
Gosh, it should be called "Sleepless-day".. I' haven't got much sleep. We have gone to a business trip that was supposed to be "just a meeting, and we'll get home before evening" - but it ended with me getting home at 02:30 in the morning. Knowing that my wokd day starts at 07:00 in the morning - you can guess what I look like today.
There's a song in our language, and the lyrics are "walking like a zombie" - perfect way to demonstrate my appearance.

However, that is no reason for me not to send you back to 1955.

Еnjoy Wednesday, my dear friends.

Let's make a cake - cheap and easy recipe to brighten our day.

Hey there.

It's Monday.
Let me imagine you're in a similar situation like myself: drfiting within the first day of the work week, trying to find some way to keep that "weekend feel" last a bit longer.

Whern there's a will... There's a way.

When was the last time you baked from a addvertisment?!

It's as easy as 1..2..3.. and it takes only 4 eggs.

FIRST off, stir until smooth, then cool: 3/8 of a cup of boiling water and 1/4 cup cocoa.
Step 1.
Measure and sift togeher in a mixing bowl: 3/4 cup flour, 7/8 cup of sugar, 2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt (don't mind what "they" say - salt is important, especially in baking - it makes the cake tastes fuller).
Make a well in dry ingredients and add: 1/4 cup of cooking oil, 4 unbeaten egg yolks (medium size), 1/2 teaspoon vanila and 1/8 teaspoon of red food coloring (if you want to... hey, you can leave it out.. or try purple?! If you try purple, take a snap, and send it to me.. I'd love to see how it turned out) :)
Beat with spoon until smooth.
Step 2.
Measure into a large mixing bowl: 4 egg whites and 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar. (cream of tartar can be supstituted with 1 teaspoon of baking powder).
Whip until whites form very stiff peaks
Step 3.
Pour egg yolk mixture gradualy over egg whites - gently fold. Do not stir, just gently fold, to keep it (ahd here goes the word): fluffy. :) Pour into ungreased pan.

Baking depends on a pan.
If you have 9inch (23 cm) round pan, bake on 325F (169°C) for 50 to 55 minutes. If you have 8x8 or 9x9 (20x20 or 23x23 cm) square pan, bake on 350F (175°C) for 30 to 35 minutes. And if you have 5x10 inch (12x25 cm) loaf pan - bake on 325F (169°C) for 50 to 55 minutes.

...
And, you can top it with one of these:
Whiped cream
Simple topping. Just whip until stiff.
Chocolate fluff
Mix together 2 cups of heavy cream, 1 cup sugar, 1/2 cup cocoa and pinch of salt in a cold bowl. Beat toghether until stiff.
Peanut crunch.
Fold 1/2 cup of chopped peanuts into 1 cup of heavy cream (whipped until stiff)

I hope you'll try it out. It's so simple to make, it takes so little of your time - but I'm sure it'll make a stunning and sweet addition to your day.
Let me know if you try this one out.

Love story: I was a small town snob

Hey.

What is that you like about Sunday morning?
I like: the morning coffee with my family, the early morning smell of August in the air, the first sounds of people waking up in the morning, the fact that, no matter what I have dreamed - when I wake up there's a whole day to find joy.
One way of instant joy s precisely this: reading a short, but sweet romance.

Shall we?

I hope you are having a great weekend!
..and I hope you'll be having an amazing week.

House is a home

Hello.

Friday.
To those who work on weekdays, this day is probably marked in calendar (red marker, underlined) and the words are: "weekend starts now".
Like any other, I enjoy the fact that it's Friday. Sure, there's pending housework, but there is some joy in doing the work, and spending time in the house I call my home. Let me tell you one thing: I can't wait for weekend, because the new carpet is arriving.
We have painted the walls in my parent's bedroom (yellow), and they ordered a new carpet. I haven't seen it, so I'm excited about it coming tomorrow. I know there are those among you who despise full length carpets in the rooms. We are all different. We like our house warm to touch with bare feet. :)

If you are planning a new house, or thinking about byuing one - here's a little gem that just might spark your inspiration.

Euclid

Like most small homes of the first part of the 20th century, the Euclid was a charming house with an open floor plan with plenty of light and easy flow. It has larger than usual rooms and the living room has a bowed end that must have been particularly pleasant. So light was it, that it was called the "solarium".

The bedrooms have windows on two sides to ensure cross-ventilation. Their privacy from the living areas is assured by the connecting hallway from the dining room. The kitchen has a convenient service entrance allowing easy access to the basement.

...
I hope this charming house has inspired you.

BURDA Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, my dear friends!

I have found a great quote for this day:
People think that you have to do something huge, like go to Africa and build a school, but you can make a small change in a day. If you change Wednesday, then you change Thursday. Pretty soon it's a week, then a month, then a year. It's bite-size, as opposed to feeling like you have to turn your life inside out to make changes.
The quote is by Hoda Kobt.

Now, it is fine time to share second part of our darling Burda magazine.
It's august 1955, and the ladies have never looked better.

Have a greast Wednesday, turn it into a happy Thursday.. and keep going..
