Summertime glory PART 6 - Lose weight this summer - WHY?!

This is part 6 of the Summertime glory series. The previous entries you can see if you stroll (scroll) over my Archives - the charming thing to your right.

Here, we are NOT talking about losing weight.
Quite the contrary, my dear ladies (and gents!) - we're discussing the "Skinny" issue.

"No skinny scare-Crow for me"

I’ve been adding to my collection of vintage advertisements and stumbled across these in various places.  It’s not often — okay, ever — that you see an ad for a weight-gain product.
If you want to be popular, you can’t risk being skinny; skinny girls can’t be glamorous!

"There is no excuse for being skinny"

A skinny, scrawny figure is neither fashionable nor glamorous. Remember, the girls with the glamorous curves get the dates.

"How do YOU look in YOUR bathing suit?"

Don’t think you’re “born” to be skinny and friendless.  Thousands with this new easy treatment have gained attractive pounds — in just a few weeks. (this sounds comforting).

"..5lbs. of solid flesh in 1 week"

LOTS of thin, pale, rundown folks and even “Naturally Skinny” men and women are amazed at this new, easy way to put on healthy needed pounds quickly. Gains of 15 to 20 lbs. in one month 5 lbs. in one week are reported regularly.

Ironized yeast?! That's what it said.

 STOP being skinny and tired

"Don't let them call you Skinny"

And here's one quote:
Maybe you don’t want to be a movie star, but what girl doesn’t want to look like one!  If you’re thin, flat, skinny and underweight due to your eating habits, follow Linda Peck’s advice and take Super Wate-On.  Users report that they gain 5 – 10 – 15 pounds each week.

…So why be skinny?

Now look at your mirror.

  1. Your last line put the biggest smile on face - so true, these ads really do bolster one's own feelings about themselves (if they're curvy) when looking in the mirror. I personally believe that beauty comes in all kinds of sizes, but it is nice to know that there was a time not so long ago when having a few pounds of womanly flesh on your bones was anything but a bad thing in the eyes of society.

Big hugs & joyful start of August wishes,
